The Best Leaders Grow in Connection

By Julie Fox

January has a way of making us feel like we’re supposed to have everything figured out.

New goals. New habits.
A cleaner calendar. A sharper version of ourselves.

But here’s the truth I’ve learned over and over again in my own leadership journey:

Growth was never meant to be a solo sport.

Some of the most meaningful progress I’ve made as a leader didn’t come from grinding harder or pushing through on my own. In fact, it came from conversations and from community. From being in rooms with people who challenged my thinking, shared hard-earned lessons, and reminded me that I wasn’t the only one navigating uncertainty, change, or pressure.

The best leaders don’t grow in isolation.
They grow in connection.

They seek out peers who ask better questions.
Mentors who see around corners.
Communities that encourage and celebrate learning, growth, and evolution.

And that’s especially true during moments of reset.

If you’re thinking about how you want to lead differently this year, I’d encourage you to start here:

Who are you learning with?

Who challenges you to think bigger?

Who gives you honest feedback?

Who helps you see what’s possible when you’re too close to the problem?

Resetting your leadership doesn’t start with a new system or framework.
It starts by reconnecting with people.

This month, consider:
• Reaching out to a peer you admire
• Scheduling a coffee chat or virtual catch-up
• Joining a community or cohort that stretches you
• Or simply asking someone you trust, “What do you see that I might be missing?”

You don’t have to do this year alone.
And you’re not meant to.

Here’s to a January reset grounded in connection, curiosity, and community.

Cheers to 2026!
